Shetland Sheepdog

The Shetland Sheepdog, affectionately known as the Sheltie, is a small yet intelligent breed with roots tracing back to the Shetland Islands of Scotland. Originally bred as herding dogs, these delightful companions are known for their loyalty and playful nature, making them perfect for families seeking an affectionate pet. With their striking appearance, characterized by a beautiful double coat and an expressive demeanor, Shelties quickly capture the hearts of those around them.

With an energetic and friendly temperament, Shetland Sheepdogs thrive in environments filled with love and activity. They typically get along well with young kids, other dogs, and even cats, fostering a harmonious home life. Their moderate energy level means they enjoy playtime and outdoor activities, but they are equally content curling up with you on the couch after a day of fun. Their adaptability makes them suitable for apartment living, as long as they receive regular exercise and mental stimulation.

Grooming a Sheltie is a manageable task, with a recommended schedule of weekly brushing to maintain their lovely coat while minimizing shedding. They are highly trainable due to their intelligence and eagerness to please, often excelling in obedience training and dog sports. You can expect to build a strong bond with your Sheltie through consistent training and play. If you're searching for a devoted companion and are in the Petland Iowa City, Iowa area, a Shetland Sheepdog might just be the perfect addition to your family.
