Bernese Mountain Dog Info

Bernese Mountain Dog

Commonly known as Berners and hailing from the high swiss mountains, the Bernese Mountain dog was formerly a working dog. This dog breed was initially developed to pull carts, herd cattle and also act as watchdogs. They are widely known for their loyalty and the high amount of energy they have. Temperament & Family Fit

The Bernese Mountain Dog is renowned for its gentle and affectionate nature, making it a perfect fit for families. With a natural affinity for young children, these dogs are incredibly patient and protective, bringing warmth and joy into the home. Their friendly demeanor extends to other dogs and even cats, helping to create a harmonious household.

Energy & Exercise

While Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, their energy levels are moderate, making them well-suited for families that enjoy a mix of playtime and relaxation. These dogs thrive on daily walks and outdoor activities, but they are equally content to lounge around with their human companions. Just a dose of exercise will keep these gentle giants happy and healthy!

Care & Grooming

Bernese Mountain Dogs have a beautiful, thick coat that requires weekly grooming to keep it looking its best. While they do shed moderately, regular brushing helps manage loose fur and maintain a healthy coat. With their affectionate nature, this grooming time can be a lovely bonding experience between you and your furry friend.

Training Notes

Bernese Mountain Dogs rank highly in trainability, which makes them eager learners when it comes to commands and obedience training. A positive reinforcement approach works remarkably well, allowing these smart pups to thrive. Their willingness to please means that with consistent training, they will grow into well-mannered companions.
