Italian Greyhound Info
Many have likened the Italian greyhound to the African Jackal, it is not impossible that the species originated from Africa as a direct descendant of the Jackal. During the course of history, the smallest of the Sighthound family was used as a hunting dog, not necessarily because it has a great sense of smell but because it’s species sense of sight serves as a hunting guide. - Temperament & Family Fit
Italian Greyhounds are known for their affectionate nature, making them wonderful companions for families and individuals alike. They tend to get along splendidly with children and other pets, including cats, creating a harmonious home atmosphere. Their friendly demeanor and gentle disposition ensure that they will be a loving addition to your family.
- Energy & Exercise
With a moderate energy level, Italian Greyhounds enjoy playful bursts throughout the day but also appreciate their downtime lounging on the couch. Short walks or play sessions will typically suffice to keep them happy and healthy. Being an apartment-friendly breed, they adapt well to smaller living spaces as long as they receive regular attention and exercise.
- Care & Grooming
Italian Greyhounds have a short coat that requires minimal grooming, making them relatively low-maintenance in this regard. A monthly brushing will keep their coat looking sleek and healthy, while their shedding level remains manageable. However, you should keep an eye on their skin, as this breed can be prone to sensitivity.
- Training Notes
This breed is known for its trainability, which will delight anyone looking to nurture their Italian Greyhound’s potential. With consistent, positive reinforcement techniques, they tend to learn commands and tricks fairly quickly. However, it’s also important to keep sessions engaging and fun to keep their attention and enthusiasm high!
